> Greetings rubber clad salties,
> A number of club members have expressed interest in obtaining a boat license. I have been in touch with NSW maritime and tentatively arranged for them to come to us to conduct safety training and administer the requisite test on the evening of 12 May. If you pass the test you will be issued with a logbook which outlines a series of competencies that you must demonstrate on the water under the supervision of a boat license holder with 3 or more years of experience. These competencies must be demonstrated over a minimum of 3 supervised boat trips. Following completion of the logbook phase you will be eligible to obtain your boat license.
> In summary, the process will be as follows:
> 1. Sign up for the safety course and test by replying to this email by 5:00pm Friday 23 April
> 2. Self study. Review the recreational boating handbook online at www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/sbh/index.html
> 3. Attend the safety course and test on the evening of 12 May....most likely at the North Oval Pavilion from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Details to be confirmed.
> 4. Complete the logbook phase under supervision. This can be done during the course of a regular dive trip, or if no dive trips are scheduled the club may consider running a special trip for prospective licensees.
> 5. Submit completed logbook and obtain your boat license.
> Fees and charges will be as follows: Safety course and test $41. This must be paid in cash on the night of 12 May. One year boat license $43 or a three year boat license $103. This is to be paid when you apply for your license following the completion of the logbook phase. In the event that the club runs a special trip for prospective licensees we will need to cover the costs of towing and boat fuel. The actual amount will depend upon numbers and location but rest assured we will keep this as low as possible.
> We will need a minimum of 15 participants for NSW Maritime to come to us to conduct the safety course and the test. Please let me know whether you would like to take up this offer by completing step 1 above. Alternatively you may contact me by telephone or sms on 0412 322 119 if you have any questions...please make sure you include your name and phone number in any message left on my answering service.
> Kind regards,
> Peter Jones
