PhD scholarship (APAI) is available for an ARC Linkage project - 
Aboriginal Landscape Transformations in South-western Australia.The aim 
of the project is to identify the environmental impact of Noongar 
(South-western Australian Aboriginal) land management, as a way of 
understanding factors governing environmental variation today, and 
improving knowledge of alternative management regimes. The student will 
be based at the University of Western Australia and will work under the 
supervision of Professor John Dodson and Dr Jane Balme. Their role in 
the project is to investigate changes in the physical environment over 
the last 6,000 years by analysing palynological records, magnetic 
susceptibility, carbon and nitrogen content of sediment cores from lake 
and peat deposits in the region.

19th December 2006

Academic Eligibility
An honours (minimum 2nd class upper division) degree in a relevant 
field: e.g. Geography, Botany, Geology, Archaeology. Current Honours 
students are encouraged to apply.
