Research Assistant
School of Geographical Sciences
(ref. 13105)

Based within the School of Geographical Sciences, you will be a highly
skilled individual with an interdisciplinary background to be responsible
for palaeodata synthesis and data-model comparisons to elucidate the
interactions between climate, vegetation changes, natural wildfires and
human activities over the past 70,000 years in Australia. This work is a
component of a new NERC funded project entitled “Analysis of long-term
ClimAte Change in Australia” (ACACIA). You will be responsible for
coordinating a new synthesis of palaeodata that will be used to make a
multi-proxy reconstruction of vegetation patterns, and charcoal data to
reconstruct changing fire patterns, through liaison with members of the
QUAVIDA working group of the ARC-NZ Network for Vegetation Function.
Familiarity with the palaeoenvironmental history of the Australasian
region is essential, and hands-on experience with site-reconstructions
based on palaeodata records is vital. Previous proven experience in fire
history, vegetation change, and database management is essential.

If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent
contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research
experience. Further information can be found at
