Dear all,
I would encourage you to participate in this years Australian
Archaeological Association meeting to be held at the University of
Wollongong, 9-13 December 2012. This is a great opportunity to meet
colleagues in archaeology and to present your latest research in
palaeoecology and archaeobotany. Registration is now open (see details
below) and you can submit you abstract online.
I am co-convening a session titled:
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES AND ADVANCES IN PALAEOECOLOGY*,* convenors Simon
Haberle and Ulrike Proske (contact: simon.haberle at anu.edu.au).
Synopsis: Over the last decade there have been significant advances in
palaeoecological research in Australia and the region. Finer-resolution
records of biotic and abiotic proxies have revealed the dynamic nature
of ecosystems that are subject to ongoing processes of changing climate
and other environmental disturbances, including the influence of people
on the landscape. The resulting environmental reconstructions provide us
with key data critical to the development of models of regional as well
as local landscape change. This session will bring together the diverse
range of palaeoecological work being carried out in Australia and
overseas and will highlight the implications of this work for
archaeological research.
Another session focusing on archaeobotany is being convened by Andrew
Fairbairn and Jenny Atchison:
FOOD, FUEL AND LANDSCAPE CHANGE: ARCHAEOBOTANICAL PERSPECTIVES FROM
AUSTRALASIA, convenors Andrew Fairbairn and Jenny Atchison (contact:
a.fairbairn at uq.edu.au). Synopsis: Archaeobotanical studies will explore
past food and fuel exploitation to examine if, when and how these
practices affected landscape change and also explore the implications
for human environment relations.
Cheers, Simon Haberle
