China Update 2002
Dear Colleagues,
The China Update is a one-day, full-day event, with speakers covering
a range of contemporary economic and financial issues in China.
The overall theme is China and the WTO in a World Recession. The
morning sub-theme is Facing the Challenges of WTO Entry and the
afternoon's is Sectoral Impact of WTO Entry.
How well China can cope with the impact of its entry to the WTO on its
economy has drawn renewed attention since the country's formal
admission to the organisation on 11 December 2001. This is not only
because increased competition from overseas has become imminent, but
also because the changes required under the terms for entry are huge,
complex and, in many ways, challenging.
Of particular concern is that China's entry to the WTO took place amid
the slowing down of the world economy. How does China's WTO membership
impact on the Chinese economy? How well can China face the new
challenges and what are the prospects of the Chinese economy?
China experts at the China Update will address these issues in 2002.
WHEN: Friday 8 March, 9.00am- 5.00pm
WHERE: Visions Theatre, National Museum of Australia
This China Update is supported by the Australian Government's aid
program, AusAID. A program is attached. Please RSVP by Friday 1
March. There is no charge for attending and all are welcome. Lunch can
be purchased nearby from the Cuiseum cafe at the NMA.
Yours sincerely
