Michael Rose, an anthropologist out of the ANU, has just published a book on Oecussi with the Amsterdam University Press.

A narrative ethnography, it is essentially a series of stories exploring at how, openly or implicitly, adat remains essential to life in Timor today, and the author’s various misadventures in trying to understand and articulate this reality.

Along with the theory there is humour and pathos and personally inflected prose- hopefully readable enough to hold the interest of readers behind the esoteric world of scholarly anthro.

Although AUP have published it and up put it on sale for a cool €99- under their ‘green open access’ arrangement you can get a free copy through this link hosted by ANU. You can see the author is an anthropologist not a typesetter, but it’s all there.

Enjoy. Share. Set for your students. Repost. Review. Link is below…
