A lot of people just select it because it's the first option on each of 
those lists, they usually select their real birth year.  Strangely enough.

You however are not part of the "a lot of people" crowd.

I tend to hover between my wife and my own birth year, but have used my 
children's on some :)

But then I'm only fibbing a tiny bit!
