In some contexts I agree that top-posting is bad -- and certainly
when posting to a list like link it's hard to imagine a case for it.
But there are plenty of situations in which it makes perfect sense.

If two people are effectively using email to do IM style communication
-- e.g.  "want to do dinner at 8?" "yes" -- then putting the new
material right at the top makes perfect sense, with a bit of quoted
material following just in case of confusion.
