That's odd.  Did you use the menu item: View-> Page Source (Cmd-U)?   
I've never had any trouble with it.  In fact it does a certain amount  
of source highlighting which you need a special plugin to do in  
Safari.  I just tried it on this page: http://www.librarything.com/ 
tag/peak+oil and it seemed to give me the source of the page.

For me it gives exactly the same result as a view->page source.

What does it actually do?  I can't work out what's the difference  
between page source and generated source?
