I recall writing about this some years ago to a pretty-much deafening 
silence. There were occasional stories in the mainstream. Most people 
think "why should I care about a pathetic loser who copied software?"

Trying to convince most people that the freedoms and legal protections 
of pathetic losers are also the freedoms and protections of everyone is 
a losing battle... "yes, but I'm not going to break the law, am I?"
