[LINK] fibre distance issues?

Dear Linkers,

my thought is that Coonan managed to completely munge some facts with 
her 1.5km fibre statement.

I think she was trying to say that copper from the node to the 
residences was limited to 1.5km. Based on this distance, I hope that 
the good senator and engineer were discussing very high speed DSL, 
(or other) services.

I think the engineer might have been trying to express that alot of 
nodes and therefore alot of fibre would be required.

just my interpretation.
