You can't even call it an ideological debate.  To be ideological 
about the whole thing means you have to believe in something.

The Liberals have proven that they believe in nothing except their 
own born to rule mentality.   Everything in this spill is a debate 
over personal self interest and a desire to see Rudd struggle 
in a Whitlam-esque manner with an intolerant, introspectively hostile 
Senate overpopulated with venomous conservatives with no good intentions
for the Australian public at all.
