The most difficult thing about economic management at this time is juggling priorities for a sustainable future ASAP while still keeping enough of the economy together to survive the transient, not to mention funding drought, recovery from floods & fires, global economic crisis, etc. etc.

I imagine the Cabinet & parts of the Public Service are working eight days a week right now.

Exactly the same considerations apply to Pres. Obama and the U.S., and maybe even more so because the country begins with a relatively higher external debt.

Well yes, I agree with you about McMansions...

Still, part of the stimulus package does cover funding for ceiling insulation and other environmental measures. And there's a lot of funding for the Murray Darling river system too, even if it's not in the stimulus package.

Have you looked at the subsidy available for photo-voltaic grid-connected generators? This company has an interesting scheme for group purchases of PV systems - http://www.aussiesolar.com.au/html/multi_installations.php Each one costs $990 after a government subsidy of $8,000 - you couldn't complain about that!
