Ah, but right there is the disjunction I'm talking about. Not every
random thing is automatically "backed by the Education Act". There must
be limits to what the discipline code can contain.
Clothing is one small aspect of "discipline" anyway, and most clothing
requirements are directly defensible by reference to decency, safety
etc. A uniform is distinct from non-uniform solely by style and colour.
There is no practical characteristic of a uniform that cannot be found
in non-uniform clothing, except that it isn't the uniform.
Anyway, I rather suspect I've found all I am going to find.
