Unsurprising. However, I responded to a post (and have since been talking
only) about how people could test VOIP for low or no cost, without changing
ISPs or 'upgrading' to a different Net access plan, or, for that matter,
bundling existing phone and Net access into one ISP account.
I imagine most providers of naked DSL have plans similar to iitalk, however
it's unlikely that most people who want to try out VOIP would be willing to
convert to naked DSL for that purpose. A quick look at iiNet's site
indicates that the only way to get free calls to PSTN numbers provided by
people other than iiNet is to at least, bundle one's Net access and
telephone service, into a package provided by iiNet (or get naked DSL). I
expect numerous ISPs provide bundles which incorporate free calls via VOIP.
However, naked DSL and/or bundles is not what I was talking about. Such
services/packages are no doubt ideal for many people who are sure they want
to use VOIP, and/or dump their landline, but do not strike me as practical
for people who just want to 'put their toe in the water' in terms of
testing out VOIP calls.
