The column of interest is the Taxes.
The US government reduce taxes both as the OPEC crude oil price rises
and as Gasoline consumption increases.

Australia needs to consider this same tactic is only to prevent runaway
inflation on food prices.

Unfortunately, Food is not included in the CPI figures from the Reserve
bank. [Neither are Electricity costs]
