That´s no surprise since the first OpenOffice.org fork was done by
Novell (Go-OO) because Sun (AFAIK) was pushing OpenDocument (ODF)
instead of Microsoft´s OO-XML. Later, after the split, LO incorporated
the Go-OO patches.
It all comes down to if you want to perpetuate Microsoft´s say in file
format standards, or want to embrace Opendocument. (ODF).
Sun´s (and I gues Apache OpenOffice´s) idea is supporting Opendocument
(ODT for text, ODS for spreasheets, etc).
