Yes, and I've also usually heard it pronounced singapo or singapu. It has
also been immortalised in a song by Blasius ToUna, "Bun bilong Tolai":

E, wanem samting em i bun bilong ol Tolai
O singapu yu strong na yu holim ples Rabaul
O singapu yu bun tru bilong ol Tolai
I no gat man i tok singapu i no holim
olgeta man i strong tasol long wanpela man
singapu, o singapu

Presumably the (introduced) "singapore", or more commonly, "chinese" taro =
taro kong kong= Xanthosoma sagittifolium.

I recently came across the term 'sigapo' in a translation of a sentence in
Rotokas (Papuan, spoken on Bougainville) and was wondering whether someone
could tell me what the equivalent in English would be. FYI, here's the
Rotokas sentence and its Tok Pisin translation:

gorupasi isi rutu karuvera isi aioavoi
Mi kaikaim strongpela sigapo.

Thanks in advance.
