Dear colleagues,

As you can see below, as co-convenor of the PI I have been approached by a Public Affairs officer from the US Embassy who is looking for ANU Pacific specialists to participate in a roundtable discussion of 'how the United States and Australia can better develop relationships with the successor generation of Pacific Island government, civic and business leaders help to harness the extraordinary potential of youth in the region to address critical challenges and expand opportunities.' The roundtable will take place at 10:30am on Thursday, Feb 22. If you would like to participate in it please contact me.

This is a great opportunity for those of you - both junior and senior - who would like to contribute to such a discussion. I encourage you to take it up.

Best regards,
Alan

Dear Professor Rumsey,

Thanks so much for returning my call. As discussed Ms. Jessica Edwardsen, The State Department's Country/Regional Co-coordinator for Public Diplomacy (see bio below) is visiting Canberra next week and we are looking to make appointments for her with the Government of Australia and at ANU.

[Image result for Jessica Edwardsen PAO New Zealand]Jessica Edwardsen is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service. She is currently the Public Diplomacy Country Coordinator for Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs. Most recently, she was a press officer at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India. She served as the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Auckland, New Zealand from 2012-2014 where she managed public outreach programs throughout New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Samoa. Her first tour in the Foreign Service was in Hermosillo, Mexico. Prior to joining the Department of State, Jessica worked in the financial services and consulting sectors New York and Washington. She holds a Master's in Business Administration from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas, Austin. She most recently attended the East West Center's "Pacific Young Leaders Conference" in Honolulu which took place Jan. 16-18, bringing together 38 emerging leaders from 17 Pacific Islands in Honolulu to address critical issues and opportunities in the region.
She is interested in discussing how the United States and Australia can better develop relationships with the successor generation of Pacific Island government, civic and business leaders help to harness the extraordinary potential of youth in the region to address critical challenges and expand opportunities.
We are hoping to arrange a faculty roundtable meeting with a few key members of the Pacific Institute at ANU either mid-morning or on the afternoon of Thursday February 22. Please let me know if this notion appeals to you and your colleagues and we will work with you on setting up the meeting .

Kind Regards
