Back in 2020 I was awarded an Australian Army History Unit (AAHU) grant to help fund preparation of "World War II in East Timor - an Australian Army site and travel guide". I applied for the grant with the assistance of the late Jim Truscott who sadly passed away in April 2021.
I found your research and writing on Timorese history to be an invaluable source of information for my project.
I've now completed a final draft of the Guide and make it available to you for your inspection - it is a lengthy publication but I would appreciate any feedback you can give me regarding its content and presentation.
The final draft version of the Guide can be downloaded from: However, I have attached the opening pages, including the Introduction and Acknowledgments that provide a brief overview of the project and publication.

Caution: This is an external email and may be malicious. Please take care when clicking links or opening attachments.
The Guide project is intended to economically assist Timor-Leste by encouraging Australians to visit the country and thereby foster awareness and better commemorate the service of our soldiers and the invaluable support that they received from the Timorese people.
In that regard, I would also appreciate you forwarding this e-mail to other relevant contacts you have who may be interested in being aware that the Guide is now available, particularly any in the Timor-Leste and Australian governments, academia, tourism industry, resources industry or veterans organisations and encouraging them to contact me for additional information.
Its size precludes its publication under the AAHU publishing programme so I am considering making it available for purchase as an e-book through the 2/2 Commando Association of Australia website (https://doublereds.org.au<https://doublereds.org.au/>) - all funds raised in this way will be available to the Association to support projects intended to assist the Timorese people.
I am also considering preparing a shortened "Lonely Planet" type guide version of the publication.
I will be visiting Timor-Leste in late September at the time of the 25th Anniversary of the INTERFET Peacekeeping operation participating as a member of the support team for the second running of the La Rende! Trek - 11th - 21st September, 2024 (https://maddogadventures.com.au/adventures/la-rende-trek/). While in Timor, I'll also use the opportunity to promote interest in the Guide to potentially interested parties there including Government Ministers and agencies, museums, academics, NGOs, members of the Australian and other nations diplomatic and defence communities and Timorese tourism operators and guides.
Thank you for your interest and support.
Kind regards
Ed Willis
