(Quote).. "Two other pioneers have identified themselves. Computer
scientist Rik Harris said that "I set up my first web server in August
1992 when Tim Berners-Lee asked me to do a hypertext version of my
Computer Science Technical Reports archive at daneel.rdt.monash.edu.au
(which doesn't exist any more). I was discussing the format of search
term URLs (can you have two ?'s in a URL?) with Marc Andreessen in
February 1993 when xmosaic wasn't able to properly access my databases. I
definitely had the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine [VIFP] web
server then (www.vifp.monash.edu.au)" (personal communication, December
2001). At 1 July 1993, VIFP was the second of only two .au entries on the
100-strong list of registered servers (Berners-Lee 1993)."
Yes. At this time Monash was certainly very virtually-alive and growing.
Another person whom might be helpfull in regards Monash around this time
will be Monash Prof Bernard Holkner. He organized EdFac Vax accounts for
a few teachers and volunteered web etc server space. (I wrote and put up
Australia's first school-website here, under a Monash .edu domain, which
all worked fine with version 0.8 Mosaic) I'm quite sure he would be able
to clarify/confirm the work of Rik Harris if you feel so inclined, Roger.
